ODAEP TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS





ODAEP aims to help students live, learn and work successfully and responsibly in an increasingly complex, technology-driven society. ODAEP Technology education programs are hence designed to help students develop tools and strategies for solving problems, using information, increasing productivity and enhancing personal growth. Accordingly, ODAEP offers technology education through experiential workshops that incorporate the following learning standards:


  • STANDARD 1: Fundamental Operations and Concepts
    Students understand the operations and function of technology systems and are proficient in the use of technology.
  • STANDARD 2: Social, Ethical and Human Issues
    Students understand the social, ethical and human issues related to using technology in their daily lives and demonstrate responsible use of technology systems, information and software.
  • STANDARD 3: Technology Productivity Tools
    Students use technology tools to enhance learning, to increase productivity and creativity and to construct technology-enhanced models, prepare publications and produce other creative works.
  • STANDARD 4: Technology Communications Tools
    Building on productivity tools, students will collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts and other audiences using telecommunications and media.
  • STANDARD 5: Technology Research Tools
    Students utilize technology-based research tools to locate and collect information pertinent to the task, as well as evaluate and analyze information from a variety of sources.
  • STANDARD 6: Technology as a Tool for Problem Solving and Decision-making
    Students use technology to make and support decisions in the process of solving realworld problems


ODAEP ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMS





ODAEP-Vanguarde Student Ventures is a project-based youth entrepreneurship program where participates gain advanced business and technical skills training as the develop original business concepts with corresponding marketing plans. In accordance with ODAEP’s belief that building a successful business enterprise takes more than just “a sale to a customer.” Students learn the basic principles of building, promoting and managing a unique business enterprise. The curriculum emphasizes student creative exploration and soft skills development to prepare them for success in the world of business. By tackling real-world subjects such as negotiation and pricing, students develop and refine the skills they will need to be competitive in the 21st Century economy. While all lessons are focused on “real-world” applications, they are additionally closely linked with both New York State and New York City Standards.



ODAEP ARTS PROGRAMS





ODAEP Theatre Arts employs a research based approach combining performing arts education, leadership development, and 21st Century skills building practice for students. ODAEP theatre arts engages students via theatre games, role play, and interactive group discussions aimed at building core communication skills while examining subjects such as self-image, conflict resolution, and more. Traditional outcomes for ODAEP Theatre arts programming include:

  • Improving student attitudes related to school and work, including academic achievement
  • Having a positive effect on interpersonal skills and social development
  • A decrease in the likelihood of risky behaviors
  • Building gateways for future student activism and civic engagement


ODAEP also offers contemporary Jazz & Hip Hop, African, and Musical Theatre programs. These classes are designed to introduce students to choreography for video in addition to improving technique, body conditioning, and improvisation, as well as developing style, stage presence, and confidence. Students also work in small groups to create their own routines that are featured in live theatre performance. Much like it's Theatre Arts programming, ODAEP's Dance programs are aligned with NYS Learing standards and adhere to the following instructional format.

  • Brainstorming and discussion group about topics on social issues, personal issues, current issues, political and economic issues.
  • Group sharing and personal exchanging.
  • Exploring movements and expression to bring about awareness to themselves and to others.
  • Investigating on personal reactions and concerns on social issues.
  • Education on selective topic. Education will include presentation from speakers and literature.
  • Creating and improvising movements through movement games and role playing.




ODAEP MEDIA EDUCATION PROGRAMS





ODAEP media literacy programs educate and expose youth to advanced media technology and career opportunities by bringing them together with industry professionals to produce original projects in the form of Public Service Announcements (PSA’s). Students also learn how media can be used entrepreneurially by analyzing and visiting local business case studies for “real-world” publishing and monetization strategies.


Case Study:

The New York Institute of Technology’s School of Management engaged ODAEP to collaboratively develop, promote, and implement a unique Media Entrepreneurship Bootcamp as a marketing/recruiting tool to increase overall awareness of the school brand to prospective high school undergraduates both locally and abroad. ODAEP leveraged it’s in-school network and deep local relationships with several youth serving agencies to reach more that 500 local schools to drive recruiting on the college’s behalf. In addition, ODAEP also developed the curricula—which included introducing students to industry standard software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and DSLR Video Production techniques. ODAEP also provided the facilitators and coordinated the guest speakers, which ranged from film directors, social media experts, and the developers at YouTube Next Lab. *The program was facilitated on NYIT’s Manhattan Campus Summer 2013.
